GOOGLE SEO CHANGES
The world is changing rapidly, and one of the biggest drivers of this rapid change is the push, by Google, ChatGPT, ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic's Claude, Perplexity, and others.

This is highly beneficial when it comes to SEO strategy and implementation because I have a deep knowledge of marketing, and a solid record of helping companies’ success and growth.
The digital marketing world is moving faster than ever, and Google’s SEO updates in 2025 are reshaping how websites get found online. Whether you're a creative, coach, consultant, or small business owner using Squarespace, staying ahead of these changes is no longer optional—it’s essential.
With Google's ever-evolving algorithms, user-focused search intent, and technical SEO shifts, Squarespace SEO needs a fresh approach. In this guide, I’ll help you understand what’s changed, how we can respond strategically, and what we can do right now to improve your visibility and connect with the right clients.
SEO FOR Squarespace Google Ranking
I’m always happy to empower my clients to do as much, or as little, in their websites. There are lots of things that Squarespace makes easy to do, much eaasier than any other website builder! But there are also some essential elements, that have a huge impact on your business, that are pretty complex and time consuming.
So the best strategy to succeed online is to do the simple things that you can do yourself, and have me do the things that are technically difficult and time consuming. SEO website optimization falls into the latter category. It is a time consuming process, even if you’re using AI. Advanced knowledge and expertise in the digital science of SEO and current best practices for Squarespace SEO is an area of website design that I specialize in. I have over 15 years of actively working with SEO. I have over 30 years of online business management and marketing experience. AI & SEO Pros & Cons
AI is everywhere online and in the news, and it promises a lot. But it also overpromises and under delivers. And Chat GPT has a lot of issues with giving incorrect information, generating content that is full of marketing hype, and content that is not very unique. The end result is that many who use it for content creation end up with content full of mistakes, that sounds like everything else online… blah, blah, blah. There are ways to use it wisely to create content, but this requires specialized tools and knowledge. I have that knowledge. Many of my clients do not have the time, energy, or interest in spending many hours gaining it.
AI Pros
Content that is SEO friendly can be created using AI.
Content can be generated quickly.
When a person who is also a good writer edits the AI generated content, it can be unique, and not filled with a lot of repetitive fluff and sales hype.
AI Cons
AI generated content tends to contain a lot of repetitive fluff.
It, all too often, is full of mistakes, including factual mistakes, poor grammar and typos.
It tends to be impersonal, which does not help Google rankings
Read on below to learn about what Google has changed in its algorithms that affects website search results ranking. I use strategic methods to capture the benefits of AI content creation, while eliminating the downsides.
Understanding Google's 2025 SEO Updates
Okay, this is where things get serious. Let’s start with what’s changed.
In 2025, we’ve seen a major shake-up in Google’s search algorithm, especially with the March 2025 Core Update. These updates aren’t about penalizing sites randomly—they’re about helping Google reward the most useful, trustworthy, and authentic content. The downside of this is that SEO must be worked with, and new, valuable (according to Google) content must be added to websites regularly, or websites’s search results rankings will drop. This leads to few people being guided to your website by Google. So this is a BIG deal.
The 3 biggest themes of Google’s SEO changes in 2025:
1. E-A-T (Experience Is Everything) Becomes E-E-A-T:
You’ve probably nevernheard of E-A-T: Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness as a Google ranking algorithm, but it’s been around for a few years. If you noticed that your business from new clients mysteriously dropped in the last few years, this may be a cause. If your website wasn’t being updated regularly to have these qualities prominent, Google may have down ranked your site, resulting in fewer people being led to your site by Google. In 2025, Google added another E—Experience.
Google now prefers content written by people with real-life experience, not just technical know-how. That means content needs to feel personal, authentic, and based on first-hand knowledge. For Squarespace website owners, especially bloggers and service-based business owners, this is a huge opportunity.
What to do:
Use case studies, stories, and original insight in your blog posts and service pages
Stop relying on generic info—add your voice and your real-world experience
2. UX is Now a Ranking Factor (Not Just a Buzzword)
Google’s 2025 updates have made user experience (UX) more important than ever. A site that’s slow, hard to navigate, or not mobile-friendly? It's likely getting buried. For Squarespace website owners, this is both a challenge and a gift: Squarespace makes it easy to create fast, beautiful, mobile-ready websites—but only if you optimize correctly. Optimization for an excellent mobile UX is more important than ever, and it take a bit more work to do this well. I understand what this involves, and have techniques to make it happen quickly, but most of my clients do not.
Key UX priorities for 2025:
Mobile-first indexing: Google uses the mobile version of your site to rank you
Page speed: Use compressed images and avoid heavy scripts
Navigation clarity: Have clear menus, logical page hierarchy, and minimal clutter
All of these are areas where my expertise can make a big difference. I understand each of these criteria and how to achieve them in the most affordable ways that authentically gain results. What do I mean by “authentically gain results”? There are a slew of people marketing SEO services and they tend to approach website owners using fear tactics like: “We’ve done a site check and your site does not have the SEO it needs.” Tip: They haven’t run any site checks. This is a marketing gimmick tryin to manipulate you through fear tactics. These companies often use mediocre methods, promising big results, and delivering few. And they then use the lack of results to sell you more of their services, while you are getting bogged down with higher expenses without revenue gains. I do NOT do this to my clients. Because you are like family to me, and I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I did this type of thing. I’m in it for the long haul, to authentically help my clients’ businesses grow and prosper.
3. Technical SEO Still Matters
Squarespace does a lot of the technical SEO legwork for you—but not all of it.
To stay competitive in 2025, you need to be proactive about:
SEO Meta tags: Every page should have a unique, keyword-rich title and meta description
Schema markup: Helps Google “read” your content better—Squarespace includes basic schema, but it can be enhanced it custom code
Use Google Search Console to identify crawl issues, broken links, and indexing problems regularly, and fix them
This is where using SEO service like I provide can seriously pay off. These are some of the technical areas of expertise that I have loads of experience in, and that have delivered above average results to my clients. I always build in the basic SEO and edit site content when building websites to include the SEO meta tags in item #1. So, since you’re my client, #1 was done when I designed and built your website. Adding additional custom code, tweaking those meta tags, and doing regular site maintenance using Google Search Console are some of the areas I handle when I’m doing SEO on a regular ongoing basis for my clients.
How Google’s Changes Affect Squarespace Websites
Squarespace is a user-friendly platform, but it’s not immune to the ripple effects of algorithm changes. Let's dive into the real-world impacts we’ve seen on Squarespace sites in 2025.
The Meta Description Dilemma
Many Squarespace users notice that their meta descriptions don’t always show up in Google search results. Frustrating, right?
Here’s the truth: Google doesn’t always use the meta description you write—even if it’s perfect. It dynamically chooses snippets based on what’s most relevant to the searcher’s query. This is an area I can help with, because I know how to ensure that the content in your webpages is rich in the right keywords, and that its not using them too little, or too much. This helps to get Google to create the snippets we want.
The Mystery of Sitelinks
You may notice that Google shows links under the main results for your website—like “About,” “Services,” or “Contact.” These are called site links, and you can’t manually control them.
They’re algorithmically generated based on your site’s structure.
To influence site links, I develop a clear navigation menu, create a logical content hierarchy, ensure webpage slugs are optimized for SEO, use internal links to help Google understand your site layout.
Blogs Are Thriving—Especially Niche Blogs
Here’s the good news: Squarespace blogs in lifestyle, wellness, and creative niches are performing really well in 2025. Why?
Because they naturally hit the E-E-A-T sweet spot: Real stories. Personal experience. Honest reviews. Clean design. Great mobile UX.
Pro Tip: If you blog on Squarespace, this is your moment. Google will reward you for creating long-form, high-quality content. This is where the Pros and Cons of AI that I talked about above comes in.
Used wisely, with the nuanced knowledge of what is needed and how to get it from AI, long form content that Google loves can be generated pretty quickly. I have that level of nuanced knowledge and use specialized AI tools developed specifically for creating content that is optimized for Squarespace and SEO. These deliver results that are head and shoulders above Chat GPT. I then customize the content more by editing it intelligently.
Your 2025 Squarespace SEO Action Plan
You don’t need to master Google’s algorithms—you just need a smart strategy, and could benefit from my help. Here’s what I recommend:
1. Focus on E-E-A-T in Your Content
Your content must feel personal, professional, and real
Share first-hand client stories and results, project case studies, your ongoing professional development journey, etc.
Add quotes, photos, or video from real events and projects
Include author bios to highlight your experience and credibility
Use long-form content (2000+ words) for in-depth topics
Update old blog posts every 6–12 months
Make your blog a trust-building tool, not just an SEO machine
2. Optimize for Mobile Devices and Speed
Squarespace templates are responsive—but that’s not the end of the story. Fast, mobile-friendly sites rank higher. Period.
What I recommend:
Have me do a Lighthouse checkup on your site to identify things that can be done to speed up your site loading times and improve your UX
Have me optimize your images and potentially connect (free) third party CDN services that further optimize image sizes
Test your site regularly using Google’s tools like Chrome’s Lighthouse
Have me help you optimize your website for mobile devices and faster load times
3. Simplify Your Navigation
Good SEO = Good UX. I can add anchor links for long-form pages to improve navigation without clutter, and help make your site navigation menus clean and intuitive, with a clear path to key pages like:
Services
Blogs
Contact
Testimonials
Portfolios
Case Studies
Events
4. Master Your Meta Titles + Descriptions
In Squarespace, every page lets you set an SEO title and meta description. If you’re creating your own webpages, don’t skip this! These appear in Google results—make them count. I can update these for you and craft new ones that deliver.
5. Add Structured Data (Schema Markup)
While Squarespace adds basic schema (for blogs, products, and events), adding custom schema can help enhance visibility with rich results.
Have me help you by creating:
FAQ schema for accordion sections
Review schema for testimonials
Article schema for blog posts
